Keya Kass has never been particularly good at choosing the easy version of a dream.
Growing up around Kolkata, she knew she wanted to make music. The practical advice, however, was predictable: get an education, build a career, make money and then figure out the rest.
So, in many ways, she did exactly that.
She completed her education while managing an education loan, built a professional career and took on the responsibilities that came with having a 9-to-5 job.
She just didn’t stop making music.
For Kass, the two things were never mutually exclusive.
While her professional life followed one schedule, another part of her life was happening in studios, through songwriting sessions, recordings and ideas that often began in the quiet hours outside work.
Her first music came from her room. Eventually, that evolved into working in professional studios and taking a much more hands-on role in the creative process — from writing and production to directing and shaping the identity around her releases.
“I always dreamed big,” Keya Kass says.
It is a simple statement, but it explains a lot about the way she has approached her career.
She didn’t necessarily have the resources to take the shortest route into music. So she created her own route.
And there is something distinctly modern about the way she has done it.
Kass belongs to a generation of creators who don’t necessarily see a career as one straight line. A professional job can exist alongside a creative ambition. Financial responsibility doesn’t have to mean abandoning the thing you ultimately want to build.
In her case, the 9-to-5 helped fund the dream rather than replace it.
But there is another reason Kass has stayed committed to music.
She wants her songs to reach people who recognize themselves in them.
Her ambition isn’t simply to have her name attached to a collection of releases. She wants to create music that makes people pause, relate and feel a little less alone.
That intention has increasingly become visible in her work.
Kass has released five singles in 2026, continuing to build a catalogue that reflects different experiences and chapters of her life.
Her latest release, “Dekhta Raha,” is now available across digital music platforms, marking another deeply personal chapter in her growing body of work.
