Ahead of launching “SUCCESS BY CHANCE OR CHOICE”, the Tushar Gems founder told the story of how he cut a gemstone’s cost by almost two-thirds without cutting quality.

New Delhi: Entrepreneur Ravi Kapoor launched his book SUCCESS BY CHANCE OR CHOICE at Prerna Utsav 4.0 on October 25, 2026. One story he has shared about his career, in his interview on Kuch Ankaha with Yashika (Daily Diary News), shows exactly what the book means by choice over chance.
The challenge
A large jeweller asked him for a gemstone that would make its jewellery look unique. Ravi Kapoor searched in India for two to three months and could not find it. He found a sample in China, where the stone cost ₹18 per carat. The jeweller’s target was ₹10.
How the price came down, step by step
- ₹18: the first quote in China
- ₹14: after doubling the order quantity
- ₹11.50: after hiring a translator and working out every cost at the rough shop and the factory
- ₹9.50: after taking the work to small workshops in a village
- ₹6.50: after an idea that came to him at night: cut four pieces together instead of one
He delivered the stone to the jeweller at the agreed ₹10 per carat.
What happened next
The jeweller later published a book that credited “Gemstones provided by Tushar Gems”. After it was shown at an IIGJ exhibition in Mumbai, enquiries came in from Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jaipur, and the business went on to set up distributorships.
The lesson
The price did not fall by luck. It fell because he kept asking where each rupee was going. That, he told the audience at the launch, is the difference between waiting for success and preparing for it.

SUCCESS BY CHANCE OR CHOICE was launched on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Prerna Utsav 4.0, a one-day literature festival at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Qutub Institutional Area, New Delhi. The festival was organised by Prerna Darpan Sahityik evam Sanskritik Manch and Sahitya 24 Prakashan, in the presence of chief guest Ashok Kumar Singh, programme president Alka Sinha, special guest Prof. Dr. Meeta Sinha, keynote speaker Rishi Kumar Sharma, welcome president Dr. C.
